 THE ALMONER

Our late Sovereign Grand Commander John H. Gowles, 33°, referred to the Almoner’s fund in these words in 1949:

 

 When the fund is collected it is given over to the Almoner, whose duty it is to distribute it for the relief of the poor, needy and distressed, with no restrictions as to race, religion, or color. There are two restrictions, however; the receiver must not know whence it come, and the Lodge must not know to whom it goes. This I call true charity, and it is the local Scottish Rite Bodies’ contribution to the public welfare
